Screen Fasteners

  • Leaf Springs or Tension Springs (Lift Tabs or Lift Handles)

    Advantages:

This simple but very effective means to secure a screen to a window has proven itself as the staple item for the majority of casement and awning windows made from wood. The corrosion resistant stainless steel spring is typically paired with a Lift Tab or Lift Handle; the resilient spring provides the resistance necessary to hold the screen in place and provides for a clean look as the fastener is hidden in most cases. The black PVC lift tab provides a means to easily grasp the screen and allow the homeowner to easily lift and remove the screen while maintaining an unobtrusive look by blending in with the screen mesh.

    Disadvantages:

May not lend itself to certain Vinyl Window screen installation due to window construction. Sightlines of the lift tab may be obvious to some homeowners.

  • Plunger Assembly or Plunger Bolt

    Advantages:

A very effective method to secure the majority of Double Hung or Single Hung Screens in the marketplace regardless if the window is of wood or vinyl construction. The robust and corrosion resistant zinc die cast plunger has been known to be paired with stationary or fixed pins, the plunger assembly can be retracted from the interior to either remove or install the screen. The tough black plastic cap or knob of the plunger assembly blends in with the screen mesh for an unobtrusive look.

    Disadvantages:

May not lend itself to certain Wood Window screen installation due to window construction.

  • Knife Latch or Butterfly Latch

    Advantages:

A very effective method to secure many Casement, Awning or Double Hung Screens in the marketplace mainly of wood construction. Made from heavy gauge corrosion resistant stainless steel, knife latches can be paired with other fasteners such as stationary or fixed pins, plunger assemblies or leaf springs to accommodate a variety of installations. Knife latches are retracted from the interior to either remove or install the screen.

    Disadvantages:

May not lend itself to certain Wood or Vinyl Window screen installation due to window construction.

  • Wire Loop Latches

    Advantages:

An effective method to secure many Double Hung or Single Hung Screens in the marketplace mainly of wood construction. Made from corrosion resistant materials, loop latches provide the screen to be installed virtually in any window frame. Loop latches can be paired with many other fasteners; however, a desirable compatible mate would be the friction hinge or friction hanger. The all aluminum friction hinge acts as the mounting method for the top of the screen and the loop latch fastens the bottom.

    Disadvantages:

Other fasteners methods may have cleaner sightlines as opposed to the loop latch.

  • Warning Label

    Advantages:

An effective method to remind homeowners that window screens are not safety devices and will not stop children from falling out of windows. Each ScreenItAgain custom configured to order screen is provided with an SMA approved label right from the Screen Manufacturers Association.

    Disadvantages:

    None.

  • Center Bar

    Advantages:

The center bars on ScreenItAgain replacement screens provide additional frame support and includes a unique mechanical fastening system that prevents disengagement from the perimeter screen frame.

    Disadvantages:

    None.
